Final expense insurance for veterans

Give your family a plan for the expenses that can arrive after a loss.

What final expense coverage does

Final expense insurance usually refers to a smaller life insurance policy intended to help with funeral costs and other end-of-life expenses. It is often whole life insurance. Depending on the contract, beneficiaries can use the benefit for funeral arrangements, remaining bills, or other needs.

VA burial benefits are separate

VA burial assistance depends on eligibility and circumstances. It is not the same as a private life insurance death benefit, and you should not assume it will pay every expense. Check eligibility and what your family would need to claim before subtracting a benefit from your plan.

Ask about benefit timing

Some policies offer a level death benefit from the start, subject to policy terms. Others have graded benefits or waiting periods. Ask what would be paid for death from illness in the first two years, how accidental death is treated, and whether premiums can change.

Keep the plan affordable

Discuss your health and a monthly payment you can comfortably maintain. A brief review helps identify what to discuss; an insurer decides eligibility and approval. Compare policy terms before applying or replacing existing coverage.
